Allison McGourty is a Scottish film producer, writer and photographer based in Los Angeles and London. She is also the co-founder of Lo-Max Films, a member of the Writers Guild of America West, the Sundance Institute, and the International Documentary Association. What a cute look the beret is. It needs to come back in style!
McGourty is the Creator, Writer and Producer of American Epic, a documentary series of films about the first popular recorded musicians in America and their lasting cultural legacy across the decades that followed. In the process of making the films, the team restored the last surviving recording machine from the era – a project that took nearly a decade – and used it to record twenty popular modern artists paying tribute to their idols. American Epic has received critical acclaim: one of the films, Out of the Many, The One, recently won the “Foxtel Audience Top 5 Documentary Award” at the Sydney International Film Festival, and another, The American Epic Sessions, received the “Best Documentary” and “Discovery” audience awards at the 2016 Calgary International Film Festival. McGourty says of the Calgary win: “It’s such an honour to come to Canada and be welcomed with so much enthusiasm by the Calgary International Film Festival and by all the people who came out to watch American Epic. We are absolutely thrilled…we are so impressed by the vibrancy of Calgary, by its art scene and its great cuisine.”
The series has gained Official Selection status throughout 2016 at prestigious film festivals around the world, including Sundance, SXSW, the British Film Institute’s London Film Festival, and many more.
