The Calgary International Film Festival 2016 screened the movie Maudie at the opening Gala! From the red carpet at the opening gala to the final after-party, this year again we saw tens of thousands of movie fans descend on downtown for 12 days of film fandom.

2016 was another record-breaking year for the Calgary International Film Festival.

The Calgary International Film Festival is built on a foundation of entertaining and engaging our audiences. I am elated to announce that for the second year in a row, our festival yet again received a record number of guests – over 36,000 people. This shows that Calgarians are invested in the programming we provide, and are turning up year after year to enjoy and appreciate the exciting celebration of film from Alberta and around the world that we are proud to present each fall. At CIFF, we aim to give back exactly the qualities that we see in our city: partnership, respect, community, and curiosity, as well as appreciation for art in all its forms, and a welcoming spirit for new friends and visitors. This year we had hundreds of volunteers, filmmaker guests, and supporters who took in 12 days of fine cinema from around the world – 211 films, to be exact. To all of you, we extend our deepest thanks. We are also excited to announce the dates for next year’s festival, which will run from September 20 to October 1, 2017. Meanwhile, we hope to see you at our year-round programming, including the popular Doc Soup series, between now and then. Thank you for making the 17th edition of the Calgary International Film Festival a resounding success!

– Steve Schroeder Calgary International Film Festival, Executive Director.
