Calgarian born Freelance Writer, Ella Clarens, has a passion for sharing others stories as she loves to learn about and connect with people.

With her Romanian roots growing up, English was not always her strong point. However, when it came to writing stories, she thoroughly enjoyed creating them.

Her interest in fashion began as a teenager drawing logos in her journal and fantasizing names for her future line. It was not until 2010 she revisited the idea of fashion involving herself as a writer for an online publication. Her initial intent was to do Public Relations with the online magazine, but there was no such position available. Instead, the Editor-in-Chief invited her to the opening of Fashion Central who later asked, “Would you like to write about it?” Clarens’ response was, “Ok, I don’t write, but I’ll give it a try!”

Since then, she has been uncovering the gems of local talent helping to boost awareness of their work and increasing their clientele. Clarens has taken her writing nationally and internationally covering Fashion Week in Toronto as well as New York. She has interviewed influencers such as Derrick Rutledge, Oprah Winfrey’s makeup artist and Lubov Azria, Chief Creative Officer for BCBGMAXAZRIA Group.

You can find her monthly column in the Calgary Herald revealing the next up-and-coming local star in the beauty or fashion industry.
