About Women of Inspiration
Monica’s vision included creating a legacy event to honour a Woman of Inspiration in her world and the extraordinary women who are trailblazers, millennial leaders, game changers, movers and shakers in the Calgary community. Monica believes that every woman has a story and is passionate about celebrating those who inspire others to greatness! To date, Canadian Business Chicks has raised $18,160 in support of Home Front for programs to end domestic violence to make a positive impact in the lives of children and women in our community. Women of Inspiration Event
On October 1, 2016, was celebrated the 2nd Annual Women of Inspiration with 400 inspirational women including 40 finalists, partners, members, celebrities, and a few good men. Nine Women of Inspiration Award winners were announced and recognized.
The keynote speakers and celebrities included HomeFront, Executive Director, Maggie MacKillop, Profit Magazine’s W100 Top Female Entrepreneurs – Rachel Mielke, CEO of Hillberg & Berk, Dr. Shawne Duperon – Founder, Project Forgive, Six-Time Emmy Award Winner, Nobel Peace Prize Nominee, W. Brett Wilson, Michelle Morgan, Erica Wiebe – 2016 Olympic Champion, Graham Wardel- CBC’s Heartland, Cassie Hawrysh, and an impressive list of inspirational women and men in support of HomeFront who believe together we are stronger.

The celebrities were the 40 finalists in attendance who were nominated for inspiring others to greatness. All nominees were recognized and each received a special gift from Hillberg & Berk. The Women of Inspiration 2016 Award recipients are Teresa de Grosbois – Game Changer, Elizabeth Lewis – Difference Maker, Aretha Greatrix – Cultural Ambassador, Lana Wright – Mentorship, Kim Deep – Boss Chick, Mackenzie Murphy – Millennial Leader, Jacqueline Cameron – Health and Wellness, and Donna Dahl – Lifetime Achievement. All the Award winners were presented with the Calgary symbol of honour, a traditional White Hat, Beauty Gram, professional portrait by award winning photographer Mark Laurie, make-up session with Mira Pucchi Girls and signature Hillberg & Berk’s Fall Peacock Collection.
Dr. Shawne Duperon, the founder of Project Forgive, Six Time Emmy Award Winner and Nobel Peace Prize Nominee delivered her inspirational address following the presentation of the awards. Dr. Shawne, as she likes to be called, described a Woman of Inspiration as “A woman who speaks her truth, especially in the most courageous circumstances. She allows her passion to be bigger than any fear.”
W. Brett Wilson’s shared about his family roots and his participation in the growth of Rachel Mielke’s company was a clear example of how a supportive hand up accompanied with faith in making things happen can make all the difference. Brett Wilson is a former member of Dragon’s Den, a CBC production in support of Canadian entrepreneurs.
Also in attendance was Olympic Gold Medalist Erica Wiebe, Canadian Business Chicks Ambassador and 2018 Skeleton Cassie Hawrysh, Ania Basak of Fashion Calgary, Olga Sem of the Vizard Show, Mira Pucchi Girls, Actors Jill Maria, Go Fish creator Zulie Alnahas, Graham Wardle and Michelle Morgan of CBC Television’s Heartland. Michelle emceed the event!

This year’s overall Woman of Inspiration was Tamara Jones. Tamara is a strong voice for change when it comes to addressing the issues that surround violence in the home. Tamara will tell you she is unrelenting in her cause. She will leave you feeling that her endeavors count; her endeavors matter.
