Raul Manriquez @TheRaulYYC
Raul Manriquez was born in Nuevo Casas Grandes, Chihuahua Mexico and moved with his family to Calgary, Alberta at the Age of 15 years old. Manriquez attended and graduated from St. Helena Junior High and completed High School at John G. Diefenbaker. For Manriquez it was a little hard to adjust to a new country but he knew he was in the right place; his soul is proudly Mexican but his heart is extremely Canadian.
As a student in High School, Manriquez was a participant in a national cooking and baking competition called SKILLS hosted by SAIT Polytechnic Culinary program. This is where he developed his passion for cooking. After High School Manriquez was offered the opportunity to work for notable restaurants and well renowned chefs around the city.
While Manriquez was working in the culinary industry he felt like something was missing in his life so he started looking for that something that his heart was yearning for. By this time Manriquez met a remarkable fashion stylist name Ivan Jimenez who took him under his wing and showed him the fashionable side of Calgary. This was the push that Manriquez needed to start something new.
At 19 years old Manriquez had created a name for himself. He put together fashion shows, helped promote Calgarian artists and independent clothing stores around the city and constructed his very own fashion name. In no time, Calgarians, magazines, and fashion websites mostly knew him as The Raul YYC a fashion stylist and creative director.
When Manriquez turned 20 he decided to take the next step in his career and moved to Vancouver. He attended Blanche Macdonald, a fashion and makeup school, where he graduated with a Fashion Merchandising Diploma. While in Vancouver, The Raul YCC brand expanded.
Manriquez modeled, appeared in fashion magazines, attended elite fashion shows and events, and worked as a stylist for magazine editors and fashion shows – including the opening of Nordstrom Vancouver.
After graduation he decided to apply for the reality TV show Big Bother Canada and was selected to become a member of the fourth season. The show was a life changing opportunity. After the show Manriquez toured Canada, experiencing more about the country he had grown to love so much.
Manriquez is now back in Calgary, the city he calls home. He has decided to set some roots here for a while with plans to promote his name and further develop his fashion career. His new future goals are to keep helping local artists while advocating and supporting the LGTB community.
