February’s Dog takes place in Alberta in modern time and is set against the beautiful and iconic back drop of the Canadian Rocky Mountains under a shroud of winter snow. It follows 2 uniquely different, yet typical men. Dale Walters, played by Paul J. Chinook is a very charismatic and lighthearted man that works hard to enjoy a life of adventure and excitement.
Nigel Loggins, played by Kevin Davey is a military veteran that is quiet and calculated in his approach towards life. The film opens with these two men as they are finishing up work on a Friday. They get called into the office at the end of the day and are laid off by their boss Arthur Newbury, played by Doug Wilson; a very clean cut, to the point, middle aged manager. They are told abruptly by Arthur that this is just temporary, and that they will be back at work in 3 months as soon as market oil prices recover.
Tell us about your role in February Dog
I play Emily Walter’s co-worker, Nurse Jean.
What was your first feeling about your character when reading the script?!
My part wasn’t originally scripted - my scene with Quinn was crafted in the days leading up to the shoot.
What was your experience on set like in Calgary?
It was great. Watching the whole process of getting everything ready on set has been one of my favourite parts of working in film and TV. There was a lot of teamwork on the day bringing everything to life.
Amy Lynn Crawford a friend of Marianne Hutchings.
What do you think audiences will think of the film?
I think they will see characters on screen who are a lot like themselves - real people who experience challenges and are seeking some way to survive tough times.

What is your advice for new artists/actors?
There’s a lot to learn when you first come to set, so pay attention. Come prepared for the day because you never know if it will be two hours or twelve on set.
What actors are you inspired by?
It’s tough to single out just one or two! Helen Mirren, Jennifer Garner, Drew Barrymore, Reese Witherspoon - In many cases they’ve played smart, strong women.
When did you first get into film?
In 2011 and like a lot of Calgary actors, my first day on set was working background on Heartland. It was such a great day that I had to keep going!
What do you have coming up for 2020 in your life/career?
I’m really looking forward to another busy filming season. I’ll also be launching one of my passion projects early this year so stay tuned!
